"The philosophy of defining beauty in art and culture lies in the aesthetics of the artist and the audience while beauty is in the eye of the beholder where no two opinions will be the same. One’s aesthetics are influenced when illustrated in other ways than in reality and creates an impact that would otherwise be neglected." -Loren Sarver
My photography is inspired by bringing attention to typically unnoticed details. We often overlook the little things in our surroundings or encounters. In my work, I strive to evoke the emotions of the audience to inspire others to look closer at their lives. For this reason, a large amount of my work is in black and white to isolate the details though colored photographs can bring out the natural beauty of some features. Additionally, I compose portraits in chiaroscuro lighting for color value and dimension without the distraction of color. The Portraits portfolio is a focus on and illumination of the eyes, known as the “window to the soul” with a single light source. My photographs are artistically created with smaller apertures so the audience can see all the many elements of the subject instead of a single focal point. I am inspired by Group f/64, more specifically Imogen Cunningham, as they moved away from the Pictorialism movement of the late 19th century and 20th century to concentrate on sharper-focused and carefully composed photography.
